'Slap On The Wrist': Man Who Attacked Central Mass Officers On Body Camera Gets $140 Bail

Police in Worcester County have released the body camera footage that shows what they say is a 41-year-old Webster man attacking officers during what should have been a routine arrest, authorities said.

Carlos Sulsona is charged with vandalizing property, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest, Webster police said. He was released after posting $140 bail, which has drawn backlash from many online.

Police were called to Granite Street on Thursday, July 25, after the caller said someone had vandalized their vehicle around 8 p.m. Officers tracked the suspect down using his description. That's when Sulsona began to scream at police in the middle of the street, authorities said.

Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but Sulsona continued to scream, police said. When they went to put him in handcuffs, Sulsona began to swing his arms wildly, hitting a sergeant multiple times.

Sulsona ran away from officers but was quickly recaptured in the backyard of a home on Granite Street. Again, he is alleged to have purchased an officer in the face before the fight went to the ground, authorities said.

Police used their stun equipment multiple times, which didn't work, they said. More officers eventually arrived to help put Sulsona in handcuffs.

As news of Sulsona's arrest spread, several people were upset over the low bond.

"The problem is the punishment," one person wrote. "$140.00 seems like literally slap on the wrist. Police do their job for what seems like nothing. Great job wpd though."

Others thanked the officers for their work to capture the man before anyone was injured.

However, some asked to see the body camera footage from the incident.

Webster police authorities posted that video on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Authorities said one of the officer's body cameras was knocked off by Sulsona early in the fight.
